General Paddling Talk / Caution around 'Bidgee trips
« on: June 06, 2016, 01:54:17 PM »
Though the usual bidgee gauges  (Mt Donald and Lobbs Hole) are falling or steady - there's a big pulse of flow coming from upstream see http://www.bom.gov.au/fwo/IDN60237/IDN60237.570011.plt.shtml. There's also been quite a top up of rain in the upper catchment today (Monday) see http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR40C.loop.shtml#skip

Be careful out there. Bokkie

Anyone got the phone number(s) of the "Never Die" property - the river left pull out for the Shoalhaven Welcome Reef section?

Thanks in advance

I want to get my boat (and possibly one more) to Launceston from Canberra for 12 January. I have a rellie in Launceston so it can go earlier. I am happy to pay a fee.

Any other ideas are welcome - qantas and jetstar have said no to checked luggage due to plane size.

Thanks in advance

see http://www.bom.gov.au/waterdata/

There's some nice options here for: working out what the flow was on the good/bad day,
working out the best season to visit and a few other trip planning tricks.

General Paddling Talk / Pulse coming down the Bidgee
« on: February 22, 2012, 10:16:36 AM »
Have a squizz at http://www.bom.gov.au/fwo/IDN60237/IDN60237.570011.plt.shtml - a ~two metre rise. This should pass by Canberra in the next couple of days.

The Crossing is now closed see http://www.tams.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/236711/Vanitys_Crossing_permanent_closure_FAQs_2012.pdf
However, the gate on the western side is close to the water.

Has anyone any recent experience in paddling this section?

General Paddling Talk / Storm is Cooma this afternoon
« on: January 20, 2012, 03:49:49 PM »
(Desperate summer thinking?)

There was 45 millimetres at Cooma airport this afternoon see http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN60801/IDN60801.94921.shtml

Though the Cooma Creek gauge has barely moved I will be checking the Upper bidgee gauges at http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN60147.html for a late weekend paddle.

General Paddling Talk / Strainers on the lower Cotter
« on: December 09, 2011, 09:17:22 PM »
There are currently two ugly sieves on the Cotter below the construction site. Both involve trees across the main channel with no clear eddy option. Though no risk to most readers of this forum, I would not recommended sending your novice buddies down this section before a dry spell and saw work. The strainers are between the junction with the Paddy's and the campground.

General Paddling Talk / Map and details of the Lower Gudgenby Gorge
« on: November 28, 2011, 02:34:43 PM »
Tim, Russ, Chris and I have had a number of trips down the Lower Gudgenby in the last year.

It's a fun trip if you are looking for grade 3. Don't go when the level is low - the sand banks are a drag.

Here's our map and description: http://g.co/maps/4dvys

General Paddling Talk / Condor Creek - Cotter Combo
« on: November 28, 2011, 02:24:41 PM »
Tim and I ran the Condor-Cotter combo late on Saturday - best level we have caught Condor creek on. We got in just upstream of the ford on Bullock's Flat ROad. Nice grade 3 run to the confluence. We cleared one log jam two thirds of the way through - the folding bush saw can in handy. The COtter level was OK but clearly needs a dam to overtop.

Hopefully Bendora will overtop and they won't start filling the dam too soon.

General Paddling Talk / Anyone got contact details of Nick Hall?

I have exhausted the usual ways of trying to find a phone number or email for Canberra paddler Nick Hall - can anyone help?

Thanks in advance, Bok

Anyone paddled this or other lines on this drop?

General Paddling Talk / Tantangerra reeleases
« on: November 08, 2010, 08:45:29 AM »
Have a squiz at the environmental flow schedule from Tantangerra Reservoir at
http://www.snowyhydro.com.au/files/Tantangara_2010-11_ReleaseChart.pdf

While the flows are modest and may only be a slight gain on the local part of the Bidgee, it may open up a few runs in the seldom paddled sections immediately below the reservoir.
(ps How was the Shoalhaven? Did you go through the river left option?)
