Some video follows from what was a great afternoon’s paddling at a super fun level (2.44m @Lobbs). Looks like levels are only dropping slowly meaning plenty of fun for a little while yet. Would be interested to know if the two rapids between Supermove and Rolly’s have ever been named.

Queanbeyan River

Big thanks tp Tom, BJ, Griff and Dan for a great morning, some great respite from newborn baby night patrol. A really fun section of river especially the little gorge midway. We paddled it at 0.68 which was ok but would definitely be better with 10cm or so more water. Heres a bit of video from the morning including Griff’s run of the Black Hole:

To all who paddled Tharwa to Pine island on Saturday thanks heaps, was a great paddle and a truly thumping level. Looking forward to more paddles to come in the coming weeks hopefully sans the appearance of the local constabulary. Here’s the vision from my helmet, unfortunately the memory card was full just before we got our “get out” orders.

Managed a very quick… run at the upper part of Yarralumla Creek too, Molonglo complete with Queanbeyan sewage bad backed up to the weir, so we left the lower part to another day. The full four minute paddle can be seen here

Big Dog kayaks

Wetspot has recently got its first shipment of Big dog kayaks, we have had the boats out a few times and have been very happy with them wetspot has 3 models the flux been a more playfull river runner, the force and more forgiving river runner and the dropzone creeker. These boats are good option if you are chasing a cheap creeker or a easy boat to get on the rivers. Big Dog kayaks retail for $1399

Cotter Playwave Sans Bridge

Recent floods have indeed washed away the nasty low level bridge downstream of the Cotter Playwave, tis now safer until such time the bridge is restored. A few foggy pics (me doing the super tricky front and side surf play moves and Scotty acually playboating from yesterday morning, and a quick video.Worth getting on the wave at the moment for sure!

2011 River Rescue Course

I was fortunate enough to attend Real Fun Adventure’s River Rescue Course run by Rohan and Nick last weekend. Course was a really great and was really nice to meet up with some new crew. I’m sure Im not alone in recommending this course to all paddlers old and new as both really useful and excellent value. Thanks again to Nick, Rohan for their time and effort and James and the Wetspot crew for organising Saturday night (even though I couldn’t make it). A few pics from day 1… forgot the cam for day 2 so if anyone took some shots of the scenarios/ wraps and pins they would be great to see!

Gudgenby River: Orroral Road Crossing to Naas Bridge

Back in early December we caught the Gudgenby at a good level. We paddled the steep (4/4+) section that goes around the base of Fitz’s Hill. It was a fun day of exploratory paddling. The map and river notes are at http://goo.gl/maps/xTqt.

A great afternoon had on an amazing stretch of river. Thanks again to a really great crew. Will be a pity if the dam expansion shortens or takes away this run as it really is a very special trip. Heres a few pictures from the day and a link to some video.
